The basic pattern here begins with the spirals. Each one has two arms made of overlapping decagons, and two arms made of pentagons. These spiral sets happen to nest into each other almost perfectly.
Then, the spirals are arranged so they flow into the next ones down similar arms without too much crashing into other stray arms from somewhere else.
